It is a remedy for low states of vitality and serious diseases, when everything around the patient looks dark. Patient’s face, lips, hands etc. become dark, nostrils sooty; hence it is a dark and dusky remedy. It affects the MIND and the BRAIN; senses become blunt and responses are sluggish; sees, hears, tastes imperfectly. Muscles do not obey the will, hence staggers, drops things etc. Muscular weakness ending in complete paralysis.  Sees, hears, tastes imperfectly, and general muscular weakness, which may go on to complete paralysis, accompanied by dropsical effusions. Convulsions, and twitching of muscles; automatic acts; automatic motion of one arm and leg. Onset of the disease is gradual with progressive weakness. Lies on back, with knees drawn up, or with legs spread apart. Dropsical swellings. Epilepsy; with consciousness, followed by deep sleep. Convulsions, with extreme coldness; in sucklings. Noise arrests the paroxysms of convulsions. Ill effects of checked exanthemata; blows, disappointed love. Feeble and delicate. One side is paralysed, other keeps up automatic motions. Serous, effusions. Parts usually red turn white. Hence, a remedy in low states of vitality and serious disease. Characteristic aggravation from 4 to 8 pm  Sinking sensation. State of effusion in hydrocephalus. Mania of a melancholy type.

Albuminuria. Amenorrhoea. Aphthae. Apoplexy. Cholera. Concussion. Convulsions. Cystitis. Depression of spirits. Diarrhoea. Dropsy. Epilepsy. Headache. Hernia. Home-sickness. Hydrocele. Hydrocephalus. • Weakly, delicate, psoric children, prone to brain troubles, with serous effusion.
• Melancholy, woeful, despairing, silent with anguish, after typhoid, in girls at puberty or when menses fail to return after appearing.
• Irritable, easily angered, consolation aggravation, does not want to be disturbed.
• Unconscious, stupid, answers slowly when questioned, a picture of acute idiocy.
• Brain symptoms during dentition.
• Meningitis: acute, cerebro-spinal, tubercular with exudation, paralysis more or less complete, with cri encephalique.
• Vacant thoughtless staring, eyes wide open, insensible to light, pupils dilated or alternately contracted and dilated.
• Sporous sleep with screams, shrieks, starts.
• Hydrocephalus, post-scarlatinal or tubercular which develops rapidly.
• Automatic motion of one arm and leg.
• Convulsions with extreme coldness of body except head or occiput which may be hot.
• Greedily swallows cold water, bites spoon, but remains unconscious
• Chewing motionof the mouth, corners of mouth sore, cracked, nostrils dirty and sooty, dry.
• Constantly picking his lips, clothes or boring into his nose with his finger.
• Boring head into pillow, rolling from side to side, beating head with hands.
• Headache so severe that has to bore head into the pillow or beat it with hands. Pain in the back of the head and feels as if water were swashing inside. Headache ends in vomiting.
• Tongue appears red and dry.
• Craves cold water even though may not be totally conscious.
• Child nurses greedily, with disgust for food.
• Excessive salivation with corners of mouth very sore.
• Suppressed or scanty urine of a dark color with coffee-grounds sediments, suppressed in brain troubles and dropsy.
• Dropsy of brain, chest, abdomen, after scarlatina, intermittents, with fever, debility, suppressed urine, from suppressed exanthemata.
• Diarrhoea during acute hydrocephalus, dentition, pregnancy, watery, clear, tenacious, colorless mucus, white jelly like, like frog spawn.

MODALITIES:

• Worse:  from evening until morning, from uncovering, from 4pm to 8pm.
• Better: When thinking of it or when mind is diverted.
